St. Lambert 2008
2008 St. Lambert Recap
St. Lambert's day started
with the kids on the ice at 9am along with several adults who showed up to try
their hand at throwing some curling rocks. At 11am the curlers were piped onto
the ice by Stephane Gaines, formerly of the Black Watch. The kids were in awe
of the bagpipes. The six teams took their positions on the ice while a Global
TV Cameraman was filming. Once the welcoming speeches were done, we were off
and running.
We were pleased to have two celebrities at St. Lambert, Ian Clyde, former
Olympic boxer, 9 time Quebec and 9 time Canadian Golden Glove Champion, and
former captain of the Canadian Olympic boxing team in the 1980 Moscow Olympics
(which we boycotted). Also in attendance was Wally Weir, former Quebec
Nordiques defenseman.
As a result of an article that appeared in the St. Lambert journal, several
people visited the club throughout the day. They supported Kurling for Kids by
purchasing merchandise and raffle tickets.
After the final tally's were in, and Champions figured out, we sat down to a
great meal.
We were pleased when Mr. Ian Clyde accepted our invitation to share his
experience as a young boy at the Montreal Children's Hospital. Ian's parents
were told by his doctors that Ian would never play any sports. Despite the
doctors' diagnosis, Ian grew up to be an Olympic champion.
After the trophies were awarded, we proceeded with our 1/2 and 1/2 draw. We
would like to express a special thank you to Heather and Ian Wood for donating
her winnings from the draw to Kurling for Kids. These are the people that make
St. Lambert Kurling for Kids a special event.
Champions start small!
